How to use it

Dürer does not project light onto your paper. You look through the screen at your reference image while you draw on the paper underneath.

• Put your paper on a flat surface.
• Prop your phone above it. A phone stand works; so does a stack of books or a glass.
• Pick an image, or import one of your own photos.
• Position it with drag, pinch and rotate, then set the opacity.
• Tap the lock, and trace.

The screen is black

Close and reopen the app. If a call came in or another app used the camera, the preview can be interrupted; Dürer will normally recover on its own, and will show a "Tap to restart camera" message if it needs you. If it persists, check that Settings → Dürer → Camera is enabled.

The image moves while I am drawing

Tap the lock. While locked, the image is frozen and the overlay ignores touches, so resting your hand or a stylus on the screen will not move it. Long-press the unlock control to release it.

How much does Dürer cost?

Dürer is a one-time purchase. After two introductory screens, the Lifetime Unlock is US $19.99 in the United States — Apple sets the price in other countries, and the app shows yours before you buy. It is not a subscription and never renews, and once unlocked there are no ads and no usage limits.

I bought it, but it is asking me to pay again

Tap Restore purchase on the purchase screen. The purchase belongs to the Apple Account that made it, so the device has to be signed in to that same account. If it still does not restore, email us with the date of purchase and we will help.

Can I sell a drawing I traced?

If you traced one of the images built into Dürer, yes. They are original to Kiducate and released under CC0 1.0, so what you draw from them is yours to publish or sell with no credit required.

If you traced a photograph you imported, that depends on your rights in the photograph — tracing it does not create any. See the Terms of Use.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Imported photos are converted and displayed on your device and never leave it. The camera preview is discarded frame by frame and never recorded. See the Privacy Policy.

I cannot see my pencil lines through the screen

Lower the opacity of the reference image, and use the flashlight or the exposure control if the room is dim.
