This is the thing worth knowing before you download it. Dürer is not a projector. Your phone shows the camera view of the paper with your reference image laid over it, and you draw on the paper underneath while looking at the screen. Nothing is cast onto the page.
Every tracing app of this kind works this way. It is the single most common reason people are disappointed by one, so it is the first thing we tell you rather than the last.
Most apps in this category put your own photos behind a paywall. In Dürer, importing a photo is part of the free app and will remain so. The photo is read, converted to line art and displayed entirely on your device — it is never uploaded.
Once you tap the lock, the reference image is frozen and the overlay stops responding to touch. Resting your hand or a stylus on the screen while you draw will not nudge it out of alignment — the failure that makes tracing on a phone frustrating. Long-press the unlock control to release it.
No subscription, no in-app purchase, no advertising, no account and no sign-up. There is no limit on how much you use it. Dürer has no server of its own — see the Privacy Policy for the two anonymous diagnostics services it does use.
